Once upon a time……………………..

January 27, 2010

Once upon a time there lived two young boys. These two boys were very different from each other.
The first boy would be called by others a very “holy” boy. He was the first to be at church on a Sunday morning. When the offering plate went around he would take out the largest bill from his pocket and wave it around for everyone to see, and then place it in the offering plate. He would also be the first to give up all of his sweeties when he was offered them as a sacrifice when the church would be in a time of fasting. This lad new the best Christian words to say at the exact time when the sermon was being given. To so many he was the perfect Christian boy.
And then there was another boy who lived on another street that was not to far away from the first boy. Unlike the first boy this one did not go to church every Sunday. This boy would be up too late on Saturday night to even get up for Sunday morning service. If his mum’s hand bag would be left on on the kitchen table, he would not be too afraid to take some spending money out of it. It was not that he did not know about God, but he just was so busy to really make time for God.
So one Sunday  morning the two lads both were in church. Not only were they both in church, but they were both sitting right next too each other. It came time after the service for prayer time. The first boy began to pray out loud so that everyone could hear! He prayed out, “Lord, thank you that I am not like other people- partying, steeling, swearing- or even like this guy standing beside me!”
The second boy looked down humbly, and prayed under his breath, “God have mercy on me a sinner”.

Luke 18:14 says, “I tell you that this man (boy), rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

To read this story from the Bible refer to Luke 18:9-14.
